PURPOSE:To set a control path without use of a transmission network for other than a master signal by providing a master equipment including a cell generating circuit, a slave equipment extracting information from the cell and an operation system monitoring unifiedly them. CONSTITUTION:When a master equipment 11 having a virtual path(VP) connection function and slave equipments 12-18 enter the operating state, a POAM cell separation circuit separates all cells from a transmission line and extracts them in the equipments and detects a POAM cell based on indication of OAM cell type. Furthermore, a VPI path information identification circuit reads path information written in the OAM cell and revises a VP connection table based on a VP conversion table. Then an output side transmission line is selected according to the path information and the POAM cell is extracted. Thus, a remote monitor control VP is set automatically among the slave equipments 12-18 subject to monitor control by the master equipment 11 without dispatching a person and provision of other network.
