An ink-jet printing sheet (I) is claimed, comprising a substrate (A) coated with an ink-absorbing layer (B) consisting of an aq. compsn. contg. a pigment (II) and an ampho-ionic latex (III) as main components. Pref. the aq. compsn. contains a water-soluble high polymer (IV), pref. 5-70 pts. wt. (IV) and 10-70 pts. wt. (III) per 100 pts. wt. (II). Substrate (A) is made of plastic film or synthetic paper. (B) contains 2 or more layers, the bottom layer of which is an aq. compsn. contg. more (III) than another layer or layers. Pref., (B) consists of an aq. bottom layer (B1) contg. 40-70 pts. wt. (III) and 5-30 pts. wt. (IV) to 100 pts. wt. (II), and an aq. upper layer (B2) contg. 10-35 pts. wt. (III) and 20-70 pts. wt. (IV) to 100 pts. wt. (II) (with the amt. of (III) less than or equal to the amt. of (IV) in layer (B2). Pigment II) is finely divided SiO2 and (IV) is polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP). The aq. compsn. of layer (B) contains a cationic polymer. ADVANTAGE - The invention provides ink-jet paper which absorbs ink rapidly, ensures the prodn. of sharp ink dots with little tendency to bleed or flow, gives high-quality print with excellent colour reprodn., and has excellent resistance to water and moisture.
