Automatic recognition system for appliance plug-connected to power supply - compares identification data transferred across optical plug and socket connection with stored appliance identification data

The automatic recognition system is used for an appliance coupled to a supply device via a pack plug connection. It employs data transmission devices (6,8,9) or appliance identification data incorporated in the e.g. optical plug (1) and socket (3) of the connection, evaluated by comparison with stored data to provide the appliance identification. Pref. the data transmission is provided via cooperating inductive coils (8,9) and a data storage circuit (6) incorporated in the appliance connector plug (1). USE - Laser medicine practices. For verifying compatibility of various types of catheter coupled to a laser light source via an optical fibre.
