Appts. consists of a push rod which comprises linked hollow members and which is retracted as a coil in a carriage. The outer end of the rod has a drive with an e.g. pneumatically rotatable vane wheel on which a breaker head is mounted. Flexible piping passes through the central openings of the hollow members for delivering a pressure medium to the drive. The carriage pref. has a straight flat middle section with coplanar arcuate ends, the carriage being formed of angle iron and the slide faces for the hollow members in the arcuate ends being formed of or coated with strips of low friction material of high hardness, e.g. spring steel. The pressure medium is compressed air which also acts as cooling air. The breaker head has bent cutter blades, attached to a rapidly rotated holder, and has hacking blades at its free end. ADVANTAGE - The appts. provides effective, rapid and reliable removal of deposits.
