A washing inspection device comprising tubular lamps (14) in a housing (12) and covered by a glass pane (16), in which there are control devices (18) by means of which the brightness of the tubular lamps (14) can be adjusted between a brighter inspection level and a darker stand-by level, and in which there are, on the feed side (20) and the discharge side (22) of the glass pane (16), proximity switches (24) which are connected in such a way that, when both proximity switches (24) are covered, the brightness of the tubular lamps (14) is set to the brighter inspection level whereas, when only one or neither of the proximity switches (14) is covered, the brightness of the tubular lamps is set to the darker stand-by level.
