An elastic fastening system and a rail spike (6) are disclosed for rails mounted on underlying sleepers (5). The rail foot (4) is clamped by means of metallic rail spikes (6) anchored in the sleepers and having a shaft (17) and a head (7) excentrically arranged thereon, as well as a plastic element (23) arranged on the rail spike in an electrically insulating manner. This fastening system has means linkable to the spike for impressing a permanent bending moment on the shaft in all stress phases and for permanently clamping the rail spike. This type of fastening system is suitable both for wooden and concrete sleepers. Another object of the invention is the anchorage of the rail spike within the sleeper in a plastic dowel (12). The purpose of the invention is to impress a permanent bending stress on the shaft of the rail foot, so that the rail spike extraction forces can be set at a higher level than usual in the state of the art. The whole system is stressed under working load and without vertical load, is electrically insulated against signal current drain and is besides useful for fixing the rail foot against longitudinal and lateral forces.
