The invention is directed toward a method for forming a net-like material from a thermoplastic film (14). The method includes the steps of: (a) forming (38) a generally uniform pattern of apertures in a thermoplastic film; (b) constraining the apertured film about the periphery of the film; and (c) heating (76) the constrained apertured film to a temperature where the apertures enlarge and a net-like material is formed.
