A method is described by means of which, where different image formats to be transmitted by television channels occur, these formats are electronically or optically predistorted in such a manner that they fill out the entire transmission channel available for transmission and thereafter the entire screen at the receiver in the predistorted form and, by interposing optical devices between screen and viewer, present to the latter a corrected virtual image.
