This invention relates to an improved system for attaching panels, especially stone panels, onto a wall of a building. The system comprises supporting structures which are secured to the wall of the building and which have a plurality of openings (14). Through each opening (14) in the supporting structure a hook bolt (16) extends into a corresponding hole (24) which is provided in the panel (26) perpendicular to the surface of the panel facing the wall. One end (18) of the hook bolt (16) is threaded for fitting a nut (20). Between the nut (20) and the metal bracket (10) a slope washer (28) is arranged on the hook bolt (16). When the nut (20) is tightened the hook bolt (16) is drawn in such a fashion that its other end (22) exerts pressure on the side of the hole (24) thus creating friction and shearing forces which firmly hold the panel (26) attached to the metal bracket (10). <IMAGE>
