1,038,174. Moulding hollow articles. M. RIPPSTEIN. April 22, 1963 [April 24, 1962], No. 15822/63. Heading B5A. In a forming press for the production of articles from plastics foil, the foil is fed from a roll 1 to hydraulically or pneumatically actuated forming tools 28, 29, 30, 31 by spaced endless conveyer chains 6 which run in guide rails 14. The chain links 12 have upstanding spikes 17 which form holes in the foil edges which are heated by a heater 25 adjacent to a hold-down roller 5. Transversely movable heating units 26, 27 heat the foil before it reaches the forming tools which comprise a stamp 28 and matrix 29 and a punch 31 and backing plate 30. The formed articles leave the conveyer chains at an ejector station 32 and a chopping tool 34 cuts the waste foil. The spacing between the chains 6 may be varied to deal with different widths of foil. The roller 5 may be replaced by a punching device for precutting the foil.
