PURPOSE:To keep high exhaust gas purifying activity even after the contact with high temp. exhaust gas by adding at least one kind of a metal element selected from specific metals to alkaline earth metal-containing crystalline aluminosilicate produced by allowing an alkaline earth metal salt to be present in a crystal producing raw material. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust gas cleaning catalyst is constituted by adding one or more kinds of a metal elements selected from the group Ib elements and/or group VIII elements to alkaline earth metal-containing crystalline aluminosilicate produced by allowing an alkaline earth metal salt to be present in a crystal producing raw material. At the time of the production of a crystal, alkaline earth metal-containing crystalline aluminosilicate used as the base material of this catalyst is essentially produced by allowing the alkaline earth metal salt to be present in the aluminosilicate producing raw material.
