PURPOSE:To obtain a lens material for eyes which has both high gas permeabil ity and high mechanical strength and excellent mechanical workability by using a copolymer comprising a styrene derivative containing fluorinated alkyl easter expressed by a specified formula and a monomer having an unsaturated double bond as copolymer components as a lens material for eyes. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer comprising a styrene derivative containing fluorinated alkyl ester expressed by formula (I) and a monomer having unsaturated double bond which can be copolymerized with the derivative as copolymer components is used as a lens material for eyes. In the formula, R indicates a straight or branched hydrocarbon group with the carbon number of 1-5 where some or all of hydrogen atoms are replaced by fluorine atoms. The lens material for eyes is a transparent lens material for eyes, which has high oxygen permeability, high mechanical strength and good machine workability at the same time, and in the case of forming a contact lens using the material, there is no fear of damaging the metabolic function of a cornea. Furthermore, the mechanical hardness is excellent, so that the shape is stabilized as a lens to be hardly broken by various physical processings. |
