PURPOSE:To grow a high-quality crystal by using a single crystal frame of the alpha-and beta-phases in a raw material used for growing a beta-barium borate single crystal according to a pulling up method. CONSTITUTION:A single crystal frame of beta-barium borate of the alpha- and beta-phases is used as a raw material for growth to pull and grow a single crystal of the beta-barium borate. Thereby, the objective high-quality single crystal of the beta-barium borate can be grown in good yield of a polycrystal crystallized on a platinum rod used in place of a seed crystal. This is because the single crystal frame of the beta-phase is used as a melt to hold a part of the barium borate structure in the melt. Thereby, the time from the production of the polycrystal to the formation of the single crystal is remarkably shortened as compared with that of a conventional method. |
