PURPOSE:To secure excellent operating stability for a vehicle by controlling damping force to be of a desired value even when there occurs a secular change such as wear, deterioration and the like to the component parts of a shock absorber. CONSTITUTION:This invention is concerned with the provision of a damping force control device for a variable damping force shock absorber which includes a target damping force setting means M1 for setting a target damping force in response to the running condition of a vehicle, and a control means M2 for controlling a damping force control valve MO in accordance with the target damping force. The vertical acceleration of a car body is detected by an acceleration detector M3, the deterioration of the shock absorber is judged by a deterioration judging means M4 based on the detected acceleration, and if the shock absorber is found to have been deteriorated, the target damping force is corrected so as to be increased by a correction means M5. |
