PURPOSE:To provide a novel compound useful as an antitumor agent. CONSTITUTION:A compound of the formula (R1 is methyl, H; R2 is 5-hydroxy-2- methylthio-3,6-dioxo-3,6-dihydroxyphenyl, 3,5,6-trihydroxy-2-methylthiophenyl). The compound of the formula is obtained by aerobically culturing Micromonospora.SP JY16 strain (FERM P3940) separated from soil in a proper medium, extracting the cultured product with a solvent, etc., and subsequently separating and purifying the compound. The physicochemical properties of the compound: orange powder; melting point: 142-147 deg.C; specific rotation (24 deg.C, C 0.1, in the 1:1 mixture of chloroform and methanol) +50 deg.; solubility: soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide, methanol; slightly soluble in ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, etc.; insoluble in hexane, water. |
