<p>PURPOSE: To obtain an air bag assembly which has a decreased weight, is easy to assemble and prevents crush of its cover by engaging a rim with locking arms are united with the cover during inflation of the air bag and by creating doors to release the air bag with the tear portion to absorb the energy during the formation of the doors. CONSTITUTION: An air bag assembly 10 is provided in a steering wheel. An air bag 18 is attached to an opening 14 of a housing 12 with a holding ring 16. A three-dimensional face 30 of the cover 28 around the air bag 18 and the housing 12 has H-shaped tear lines which are torn during its inflation. A notch 36 for receiving a rim 26 during the inflation and an inner curved dent 38 are created on and in locking arms 32 and 34 which are extended from the three- dimensional face. A spider 24 provided on the bottom of the housing 12 holds the cover 28 in a certain position with holding clips 40 and 42. The tear portion forms doors to release the air bag when the tear portion is torn. The energy is absorbed when the doors are formed. This assembly has a decreased weight, is easy to assemble, and can prevent the crush of the cover 28.</p> |
