PURPOSE:To obtain a protein useful as an endotoxin detecting reagent, a medicine for injection and a treating agent for adsorbing and removing endotoxin, having lipopolysaccharide affinity. CONSTITUTION:A blood cell membrane fraction of king crab is extracted in the presence of Ca<2+> with a polyethylene glycol ether type nonionic surfactant. The extracted solution is subjected to affinity chromatography using a lipopolysaccharide as a ligand and eluted with an eluent containing a chelating agent to give a new lipopolysaccharide bonding protein showing a single band by SDS-PAGE under a reducing condition, having 27,000 molecular weight, comprising 221 amino acids.
