PURPOSE:To obtain a mold lubricant which facilitates the casting of steel, even if it is a kind of steel liable to cause defects, by selecting the lubricant comprising oxides, carbon, and unavoidable impurities and by determining the compounding ratio of the oxides using a specified formula. CONSTITUTION:A mold lubricant for the continuous casting of a carbon steel or an iron-based alloy comprises 25-45wt.% CaO, 25-35wt.% SiO2 up to 10wt.% Al2O3, up to 20wt.% Na2O, up to 10wt.% Li2O, up to 10wt.% MgO, up to 10wt.% ZrO2, up to 10wt.% carbon, and other unavoidable impurities. The compounding ratio of these oxides is determined so as to satisfy the relation: 1.0<=beta<=1.3 wherein beta is a molar concn. dependent on the components of the powder and shown by the formula or so as to satisfy 0.80<=lambda<=0.88 wherein lambda is the thermal conductivity (W/mK) of the composite oxide in a molten state. The amt. used of the lubricant per unit amt. of casting alpha (kg/t) during continuous casting pref. satisfies the relation: 0.7<=lambda/alpha<=1.6. |
