PURPOSE:To print furigana (phonetic transcription for kanji) together with kanji by detecting the presence of furigana along with kanji and, based on the result, driving a group of printing elements for furigana. CONSTITUTION:When printing data of a format comprising, for instance, data D1 showing the presence of furigana, data D2 showing the number of furigana, code D3 for kanji, for example, '' (kan)'', and codes D4, D5 for '' (ka)'' and '' (n)'' respectively are supplied, data D1, D2 determine the number of furigana at control circuit 26 and supply a driving signal for the 1st and 2nd letter-signal generators 22, 23 and driving circuits 24, 25. On the other hand, code D3 is sent to the 1st signal generator 22, from which image element signals for '' (kan)'' are supplied in consecutive order for driving circuit 24. Codes D4 and D5 for furigana '' (ka)'' and '' (n)'' respectively are supplied for the 2nd signal generator 23, from which image element signals for '' (ka)'' and '' (n)'' are supplied in consecutive order for driving circuit 25, thus kanji and furigana being printed together at the same time. |
