965,331. Capacitors. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Feb. 21, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1961], No. 6669/62. Addition to 957,736. Heading H1M. In a method of constructing a capacitor of the kind described in the parent Specification, wherein plural multilayered foils each comprising alternate layers of varnish and metallic coating are formed on a carrier layer, separated therefrom, and wound simultaneously together to form a capacitor; at least three of such foils are secured together into a single composite foil over the whole surfaces of adjacent varnish layers and thereafter wound into a single selfsupporting capacitor unit. Foils comprising layers of e.g. polystyrene 13, evaporated metal 12, and cellulose acetate 11 (Fig. 2), are carried on tapes 6 of e.g. waxed paper on storage rolls 1 (Fig. 1), from which they are wound over deflection rollers 2, 3 for separation of the foils from the tapes, which are stored for re-use on take-up rolls 4. Friction clutches in the drives to rolls 2 prevent damage to the foils, which are coated on the cellulose acetate layers with a solvent from a sprayer or evaporator 7, and pressed together by frictiondriven rollers 8 in a drying enclosure, so that the foils adhere at the cellulose acetate faces after which the composite foil is cut to width at 9 and two such foils are wound together into a roll capacitor. Cellulose acetate or other suitable cement may be used instead of solvent for joining the foils. Electrode contact is made by metal spraying the ends of the roll. |
