METHOD FOR TREATING GLASS CLOTH FOR PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

PURPOSE:To improve the drillability or punchability by washing a glass cloth for printed circuit boards composed of glass yarn to which a synthetic resin- based binder is applied, then regulating the binder pickup to a specific % or below and then treating the resultant glass cloth with an alkoxysilane. CONSTITUTION:Glass yarn to which a synthetic resin-based binder prepared by mixing an amine-modified epoxy resin or an ethylene oxide adduct epoxy resin with a silane coupling agent and a wetting agent is applied is used to weave a glass cloth for printed circuit boards. The resultant glass cloth is then washed to regulate the pickup of the binder to <=0.2%. The obtained glass cloth is subsequently immersed in a tetraalkoxysilane treating liquid expressed by the formula Si(OR)4 (R is l-4C alkyl group), then squeezed with a mangle and subsequently dried to reduce the tensile strength of the glass cloth and improve the machinability thereof.
