PURPOSE:To easily oxidize a substrate by impressing a voltage on both electrodes while supplying oxygen and the substrate on both sides of a specified solid electrolyte with both sides coated with an electrode to ionize the oxygen. CONSTITUTION:Both sides of an oxygen ion-permeable solid electrolyte 1 of ZrO2, etc., contg. 8mol% of a solid soln. of Y2O3 in a reactor 7 are coated with pasty Au to form an anode 4 and a cathode 4, and the inside of the reactor 7 is divided into an oxygen supply chamber 2 and an oxidation reaction chamber 3. Oxygen is supplied to the chamber 2, and hydrocarbons, saturated or unsaturated liq. carboxylic acids or a solid reaction substrate are supplied to the chamber 3. A voltage is impressed on both electrodes 4 from a power source 5 at the rate of (25-0.04T)V/mm (where T is the temp. in deg.C) per mm thickness of the solid electrolyte to increase the amt. of oxygen to be passed through the electrolyte 1, the oxygen is converted to an active oxygen species, and the reaction substrate in the oxidation reaction chamber 3 is easily oxidized in the absence of catalyst. |
