Material consisting of densified expanded PTFE has density of 2.10 grams per cc. or greater and has the remnants of fibril and node structure characterised by peaks at 327 and 380 deg.C. in a thermogram of differential scanning calorimetry produced while raising temp. of 10 deg.C. per minute.Also claimed is the prodn. of articles and a composite pump diaphragm (10).Pref. the densified PTFE has a density of at least 2.14 grams per cc. Pref. the layers of PTFE include at least one layer of a reinforcing fabric which can withstand the processing temp. without losing its strength. A fluoropolymer resin adhesive is applied between the fabric and PTFE layers.
