PURPOSE: To increase transmitted light and to reduce heat generation by providing a polarizing means in a stage area. CONSTITUTION: An overhead projector 200, where a base 202 and a head 204 attached to the base 202 and the base 202 has a light source 206 close to the area of a stage 210 and the head 204 has a means which projects a picture placed on the area of the stage 210, is provided with a polarizing means 10 which is placed in the area of the stage 210 for the purpose of allowing the p-polarized component of light from the light source 206 to pass through and reflecting the s-polarized light component of light from the light source 206.
