METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DISCRIMINATION AND RESTRAINT OF NOISE IN INCOMING SIGNAL

PURPOSE: To identify and suppress noise on a real time basis by containing a device for identifying and suppressing noise in an arrived signal and permitting a logic device to control a muting device with a difference between a repeated signal and a prediction value. CONSTITUTION: A signal level averaging device 12 averages the absolute value of the arrived signal S, gives an outputδ1 to a logarithm conversion/ normalization device 14 and executes conversion. The output 26 is transmitted to the first input 29 of a comparator device 18 and it is transmitted to the input 32 of a prediction device 16. The prediction device 16 carries the value of Snorm to the second input 36 of the comparator device 18 and calculates a predicted error parameter E1 . The muting device 20 receives logic output showing the comparison of the predicted error parameter E1 and a threshold and an input signal S. When the predicted error parameter E1 is less than the threshold, muting is executed. When the predicted error parameter E1 exceeds the threshold, the arriving signal S is not muted.
