Irreversible permanent information storage media process - uses microcapsules of colouring agent and active developer activated by piercing relevant capsules

The process uses a medium (1) carrying a layer (2) consisting of at least one but possibly three colouring agents (3a,3b,3c) encapsulated in individual microcapsules distributed to form pixels on the surface of the medium. A second layer of microcapsules contains a developing re-agent (5) which fixes the colorant when they come into contact. Information such as an image is stored by piercing appropriate colorant capsules and reagent capsules in order to develop an appropriately coloured pixel. Alteration of the image is prevented by hardening the unused capsules by exposure to UV light or other radiation. USE/ADVANTAGE - For images on e.g. identity cards, bank cards. Permanent, irreversible storage of information.
