Treatment of water e.g. from rivers comprises (a) bringing untreated water to centrifuge, (b) separating residues, (c) removing treated water via suction pump, (d) injecting air into centrifuge to remove accumulated residues, and (e) removing residues via suction pump. Appts. is also claimed. ADVANTAGE - Low operational cost as motive power is generated by diverted water, process protects fish. Hygienic operation as residues are transferred to dedicated bags for disposal or incineration.
