The system controls the rate and duration of radio-frequency message transmission in a secondary radar system. The system includes a signal shaping circuit (14) providing the message for transmission to a transistor power amplifier (15). The message management circuit (6) includes a connection from a sensor (4) associated with the power transistor. The sensor provides a voltage derived from a transistor representing the temperature of the power transistor. The message management circuit then provides control in order to prevent the temperature of this transistor rising unacceptably. USE - Prevention of thermal overload of power transistor used in MODE-S secondary radar used in ground - air communication and surveillance.
