PURPOSE:To automatically add optimum acoustics to a selected timbre and improve the operability of a switch for that by providing a timbre deciding means which decides the selected timbre and an effect determining means which determines the acoustics corresponding to the timbre. CONSTITUTION:The setting state of a panel 8 and the keying state of a keyboard 14 are read in and data on them and setting data on the timbre and sound volume are saved in a RAM 18. Then the selected timbre is decided and the kind of the acoustics to be added is read out of a timbre-acoustics table stored in a ROM 17 and saved in the RAM 18. Then parameters such as the timbre and sound volume of an artificial sound to be generated are outputted to a sound source LSI 19 according to the setting state of the panel 8 and the keying state of the keyboard 14 and the sound source LSI 19 is controlled according to a specific control program stored in a ROM 17. The sound source LSI 19 generates the artificial sound with the specific timbre and sound volume under the control of a CPU 16 and outputs it to an IC 20 for effect addition.
