<p>PURPOSE:To effectively and reversibly compress multi-valued pictures prepared on a computer. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with a palette memory 7 capable of registering 2<m> pieces of picture data with 24-bit depth, buffer 2 storing chrominance data before one picture element, buffer 3 storing the chrominance data different from the buffer 2, comparison section 4 comparing the present chrominance data with the buffer 2 and outputting the result of comparison, comparison section 5 comparing the present chrominance data with the buffer 3 when the result of the comparison section 4 is different and outputting the comparison result, means retrieving whether the present picture element data are registered in the palette 7 when the comparison results of the comparison sections 4 and 5 are different and making a new registration if they are not, means counting the picture element data registered in the palette 7, and means outputting the address of the palette memory by the low order (int)log2 (x)+1 bit based on a counting result (x).</p> |
