A shift register circuit is used as an auxiliary unit in the addition and subtraction of digitally coded numbers for handling the decimal point positions. The unit has registers (10,20) used to store the input numbers and these are connected to AND gate arrays (3,4), each of which connects with a multiple input OR gate (5,6). An additional shift register (30) is used only for division operations. Automatic operation of the circuit is provided by pulses generated by a counter based circuit. ADVANTAGE - Provides automatic shifting of decimal point.
