The sealing O-ring (26) is mounted in a ring groove (5) in only one of the two flanges (4) and next to the ring groove on the one side facing the pipe connection axis and on the other side facing the tension device (11) are sealing surface parts (6,7). The other flange (2) has a sealing surface (3) which can be pressed against the sealing ring (26) and adjoins substantially gap-free the sealing surface parts (6,7) of the one flange (2). The sealing surface parts of one flange and the sealing face of the other are flat and form a common plane. The ring groove opening should be narrower than the dia. of the sealing ring (26).
