A permanent magnet system is provided with a field direction that varies with position. The magnetic unit can be either ring, cylinder or ball shaped. For a tubular section system the unit is of a single part of isotropic permanently magnetic material, throughout which the field direction varies. The magnetisation is achieved by locating the element in an homogeneous field where the direction is related to the angular position. ADVANTAGE - Allows variable direction field to be produced.
