The cladding is fixed clear of the rotating wheel and forms a self-supporting airtight surface. The skins (2.1,2.2) are of sheet material which can be hot-welded. They enclose two or more chambers (3,4) and the skin furthest from the wheel (1) contains cup-shaped indentations (9) and is covered by a plastics shell (13) parallel to the inner sheet, so as to form double chambers (3.1,4.1). Opposite holes (7,7.1,8,8.1) of the same dimensions are formed in the indentations and the inner sheet. The chambers and double-chambers form Helmholtz resonators. USE/ADVANTAGE - Cladding inside vehicle wheel-arches, giving improved damping of noise generated by splash water, stones, etc.
