The invention relates to a method for the production of pigments having a composite structure. It is characterized in that to a dispersion of core particles a solution containing complex forming or precipitating anions and a solution containing complex forming or precipitating cations is added so that a layer of a sparingly soluble complex or salt is formed on the core particles whereupon a protecting film is applied on the particles.
