In a process and appts. for mechanical, hydraulic, chemical and biological improvement of subsoil, the novelty is that a cylindrical piercing device, with a central passage, displaces the subsoil during penetration and various working elements, which are operated through the passage, are positioned ahead of the piercing device. The piercing device has a pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical, reversible drive and, in front of the drive, a displacement head which may be flat, pointed or stepped and which may be located centrally or eccentrically. A packer is provided between the drive and the head for sealing, compacting, bracing or testing the subsoil. All the requisite service lines are accommodated in a pipe trailing the piercing device. USE - For treating cohesive or non-cohesive natural soil, weathered and fissured rock and artificial landfills and deposits (esp. waste and sludge) to effect mechanical strengthening and consolidation, hydraulic permeability increase or redn., chemical protection of the environment or underground constructions or biological improvement of subsoil decontamination by microorganisms.
