800 parts by volume of a gas containing 12% CO and 88% N2 is mixed with steam in a ratio of 1 : 2.1 and passed under isothermal reaction conditions through 1 part of catalysts made by treating freshly precipitated, filtered and still moist iron carbonate and commercially pure CrO3 with a strong acid in a ratio of 0.1 to 3.0 moles of acid per mole of CrO3, drying and calcining at 200 DEG to 500 DEG C. at a slowly rising temperature, and then shaping by conventional tabletting or pelletizing. The efficacy of this catalyst to convert such gas mixtures to CO2 and H2 at 300 DEG , 320 DEG and 350 DEG C. is compared to that of prior art catalysts.ALSO:Oxidation catalysts comprising Fe2O3 promoted with Cr2O3 are made by mixing FeCO3, CrO3 and a strong acid in a ratio of 0.1 to 3 moles of acid per mole of CrO3, drying and calcining at 200-500 DEG C and shaking the catalyst conventionally. In an example FeSO4 is mixed with Na2CO3, the precipitated FeCO3 is washed, filtered, mixed with CrO3 and HNO3 and dried and calcined. |
