PURPOSE: To obtain a compsn. having a quite superior activity for alkylation or hydrogenolysis, and a catalyst comprising the compsn. CONSTITUTION: A compsn. is basically formed from a layered clay dispersed uniformly on an inorg. oxide substrate. The clay is dispersed in such a way that the clay layer is surrounded completely with the inorg. oxide substrate. The inorg. oxide is selected from the group consisting of alumina, titania, zirconia and their mixtures. The clay may be montmorillonite, a metal exchanged clay (Fe<3+> being exchanged), or aluminum chlorohydrate(ACH) pillared clay. The compsn. can be used as a catalyst for alkylation or hydrogenolysis. Or, a metal can be dispersed on it to provide a catalyst useful for hydrogenolysis or alkylation. |
