PURPOSE:To provide a ceramic rolling body showing improved reproducibility of its rolling life and having a longer life. CONSTITUTION:This rolling body for bearings consists of a ceramic sintered body. In this body, tensile stress is distributed as residual stress near the surface of the rolling body. Since the surface residual stress of the ceramic rolling body is in good correlation with the rolling life, a good rolling life can be obtd. in good reproducibility by distributing tensile residual stress near the surface. To distribute tensile residual stress near the surface of the ceramic rolling body, the ceramic sintered body is subjected to mechanochemical polishing when the body is processed into the objective shape, for example, in the final grinding process. |
