PURPOSE:To obtain a phenol resin compsn. for carbon-carbon composite material which has a low viscosity and a high residual carbon content by compounding a specific resole phenol resin with a specified amt. of an arom. aldehyde or an arom. alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A phenol (e.g. cresol) and an aldehyde (e.g. fromaldehyde) are reacted in a molar ratio of 1:(1-2) to give a resole phenol resin having a number- average mol.wt. of 150-300, which is compounded with at least 3wt.% atom. aldehyde (e.g. benzaldehyde) and/or arom. alcohol (e.g. benzyl alcohol) to give a resole phenol resin compsn. for a carbon-carbon composite material. The compsn. enables the composite material to be produced by impregnation in one step, simplifying the production of the composite material, and enabling a high-strength carbon-carbon composite molding to be obtd. at a low cost. |
