PURPOSE:To produce a large quantity of beta-carotene in high yield and in high purity from a cultured product produced by culturing the Dunaliella of the genus Chlorophyceae. CONSTITUTION:The Dunaliella of the genus Chlorophyceae is cultured in a nutritive medium containing a nitrogen-supplying source and a phosphorus- supplying source under the irradiation of light. Therein, iron or arsenic is added to the medium, and inorganic nutritive salts are further continuously or intermittently supplied to the medium for the gradual increase in the concentrations of nutritive elements in the medium to produce a cultured solution containing the Dunaliella in a high concentration. The Dunaliella is extracted out from the cultured solution, and beta-carotene is recovered from the cultured solution. The contents of the nitrogen and phosphorus in the nutritive medium are preferably 1-5mg, respectively, and also the addition amount of the iron or arsenic is preferably 0.5-20mg per 1 of the nutritive medium. |
