PURPOSE: To obtain an injectable composition capable of being used for treating a joint or any other part of a body, in which natural lubrication between the joint surfaces, or the like, is insufficient, or addition of any other lubricant is required, and also to provide a device for treatment with the composition. CONSTITUTION: This device is useful for replacing a natural liquid lubricant of a human or animal body. This composition consists of a liquid suspension of a hydrophilic polymer in a hydrophobic carrier and the liquid suspension can easily be injected into any desired part of a body. After the injection, the carrier is removed from the polymer by diffusion and replaced with body fluid. Thus, water is absorbed in or adsorbed on the polymer to form a viscous liquid lubricant.
