PURPOSE: To enhance the quality of a displayed picture, by separating the received echo signals through a transducer into high frequency signals and low frequency signals, compressing either by different compression circuits, and then forming a signal for display by addition of the compressed signals. CONSTITUTION: Output signals of a transducer (converter) 12, which scans a prescribed fan-shaped area by transmitting ultrasonic signals into the body of a patient, is received by a receiver 19 through a switching measure 18, and the received echo signal is then transferred to LPF 26 and HPF 27 through an A/D converter 24. The low space frequency signal and high space frequency signal from either filter 26 and 27 enter the different compression circuits 28 and 29 respectively. Where the low space frequency signal is compressed with high compression ratio and the high space frequency signal with lower compression ratio. Then an addition circuit 31 adds either output after compression. Thus obtained addition output enters a digital scanning and converting circuit 32 to pretreat the data for display purpose, and then is displayed on a display unit 37. |
