PURPOSE:To prevent excess of engine speed, engine failure, knocking, etc., by providing plural transmission characteristics wherein an objective engine speed corresponding to a vehicle speed is set and making transmission control on the basis of a desired transmission characteristic selected according to operation. CONSTITUTION:In a control device for an automatic transmission, by a microcomputer 16 for inputting output signal of a vehicle speed detector 10, an engine speed detector 12 and a switch changeover means 14, a gear ratio controlling motor 20 is controlled, thereby modifying gear ratio in a gear ratio controlling mechanism 21. In this case, a switch changeover means 14 is provided which selects a gear ratio corresponding to a switch number from an objective engine speed determinating table in which an objective engine speed corresponding to a vehicle speed is set. An objective engine speed determining table corresponding to the selected switch number is then retrieved, so that an objective engine speed is determined. The gear ratio controlling mechanism 21 is controlled on the basis of a deviation between the objective engine speed and an actual engine speed. |
