PURPOSE:To maintain the circumrotating motion during the overlap transfer stage of an intermediate transfer body in a specified load state and to execute this motion in a short period of time without increasing the size of the device. CONSTITUTION:The circumrotating motion of the intermediate transfer body 19 after the end of a prescribed number of times of the overlap transfer is basically maintained in the specified load state by controlling this motion according to a relation between the circumferential length LT of the intermediate transfer body 19 from the overlap transfer position on the intermediate transfer body 19 to the simultaneous transfer position to recording paper and the length of the image size LP to be formed; for example, at the time of length relation of LP>LT, by once returning the intermediate transfer body 19 after the end of the prescribed number of times of the overlap transfer by a prescribed distance to the upstream side from the transfer position, then again circumrotating the intermediate transfer body 19 in a forward direction in such a manner that the simultaneous transfer stage does not overlap during the transfer to the intermediate transfer body 19, by which the time required for the circumrotating motion of the intermediate transfer body 19 is shortened and the recording speed is increased. |
