PURPOSE:To always display a fixed color regardless of the photographing conditions by calculating the relationship between the chroma of a color chart and the chroma of a photographed color chart and correcting the image of a subject based on the calculated relationship. CONSTITUTION:A subject is photographed after color chart 31 is deleted out of the place near the subject, and a prescribed range of each chroma 31a is designated and selected. Then the average value of the picture elements included in a minute size of the chroma 31a is calculated as the key value of the chroma 31a to set the coefficient of a matrix which interpolates the relationship between the different color display system. Then the key value is multiplied by the matrix, and the key value is compared with the colorimetric value of the chroma 31a. Then the square average value of each difference between the key value and the color value of the chroma 31a is calculated and it is decided whether the error calculated based on the coefficient of the present matrix is minimized or not to correct the coefficient into the new one. That is, the image of the subject is corrected based on the coefficient that can display the chart 31 in a correct color. Then an image is shown on a display 9 in a correct color based on the chart 31.
