PURPOSE:To provide rare earth-iron-cobalt-nitrogen magnetic material having uniform composition and optimum magnetic characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A rare earth-iron-cobalt alloy is brought into contact with reducing mixed gas containing hydrogen and active nitrogen 111 the temperature range of 301 to 594 deg.C, and conversion ammonia partial pressure P and temperature T deg.C are brought within the range of T<=198P<2>-493P+595 in the title rare earth-iron-nitrogen magnetic material.
