The front of a semi-trailer body is raised by a jack (15) and tips about the axis (14), mounted across the chassis frame. The stabiliser jacks (16) are mounted on the chassis frame and act on the axle (17), extending to touch it before the jack starts to lift the body. Fluid reaches the stabiliser jacks until the body lifts and a limit valve (23) on the chassis frame locks the stabiliser jacks as supports until the body drops. The sideways tilt detector (26) is mounted transversely and comprises a bowed pipe containing a ball which moves to energise a warning or a shut-off system when sideways tilt exceeds a given limit. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used on tipping semi-trailers to prevent accidents caused by the centre of gravity of the body and its load exceeding the safety envelope.
