PURPOSE:To achieve operational performance equivalent to that of an engine automobile by eliminating the need of mechanical reduction gear or differential thereby enhancing system efficiency and facilitating maintenance. CONSTITUTION:In the drive system for electric automobile wherein AC motors for driving wheels are driven through inverters with a battery as a power supply, two AC motors 501, 502 constituting an AC motor 50 for driving wheels have output shafts 513, 523 coupled, respectively, with left and right driving wheels 81, 82 and two inverters 41, 42 for driving the motors 501, 502 are connected in series on the DC side. The inverters 41, 42 connected in series are then connected through a DC reversible power converter 9 across a battery 1. The power converter 9 controls combined input voltage or current of the inverters 41, 42 and controls frequency of the inverters 41, 42 as a square wave output inverter. |
