The reaction container holds a sample of liquid to be tested for the presence of a particular product. The container (1) is of a size to hold the sample to be tested, and includes a dry deposit of a chemical reactant (2) on the base and lower parts of the side walls. A cover (7) fits over the cell. The cell itself may be made from transparent material, so that the results of the test may be optically sensed. A number of cells may be set up to detect the presence of different substances within samples of the same liquid. USE/ADVANTAGE - Eg for organic or mineral pollutants, biochemistry eg cholesterol or adenine triphosphate - ATP, antibodies or antigens, enzymes eg luciferase and micro-organisms Testing procedure is not dependent on accurate addition of reactant by operator. All reactant can be contained in container in predetermined amount, to avoid separate storage and manipulation. Enables use of small dosage of reactant eg tens of microlitres.
